Edinburgh, or ‘Auld Reekie’, is Scotland’s capital and second largest city. It lies towards the east of the central belt, with the Firth of Forth to its north and the Pentland Hills to its south. The Firth is bridged by Sir William Arrol’s famous 1890 cantilever Forth Rail Bridge. It was made Scotland's capital in the 15th century, and its cultural achievements in the 18th century period of enlightenment earned it the title of 'Athens of the North.' It now houses the devolved Scottish Parliament, with its new home currently being built close to Holyrood Palace. Edinburgh is known worldwide for its international arts festival held every summer. |

"I haven't returned to Edinburgh since this buidling bacame a hotel - it used to be the head office of the Scotsman newspaper. A great hotel, offering luxurious rooms with great views out over the city towards Princes Street. Food perhaps not as good as it could have been - but a great bar open to non-res too so a great atmosphere." | |
