Glasgow is Scotland’s largest city, and in the 19th Century was undoubtedly the ‘Second City of the Empire’. It lies to the west of Scotland’s Central belt and straddles the River Clyde whose shipyards brought the city much acclaim. Art and culture are important in Glasgow life, with and abundance of galleries and museums - mostly with free admission. These include the renowned Burrell Collection, the Gallery of Modern Art and the world's first Museum of Religion.
